Let’s talk body care! I know what you’re thinking, “why do I need to spend even more time taking care of the skin on my body?” Did you know your skin is the largest organ on your body? We spend time and our hard earned money to take care of our face. But what about your body? Look in the mirror and see how much real estate your body has compared to your face. It’s a lot, right?!
Just like I take care of my face, I want to treat the rest of my body with the same care. I used to save body and bath products for special moments to treat myself, but why shouldn’t I treat myself every day? I figured it’s better to use what I currently have, rather than letting products go to waste and take up drawer space. I had this habit of “saving things” so I can use it later, but in reality, I was never finding the time to use it.
My body is my home so this year, I really wanted to create habits to take better care of my body. It’s necessary. Skin health doesn’t include just the face, the body deserves the same care.
I’ve tried drugstore body products like Dove, Aveeno, Cetaphil, etc. While these products do the job in cleansing and moisturizing my body, I was looking for something more. I needed to know the products I was buying with my hard earned money are made with effective, good-for-you ingredients. I’m not an ingredient expert, but I want to feel confident that when I am buying a product that is made of good stuff by some really good people who care about their customers. This is why I appreciate transparency and love it when brands help educate their customers about their products from formulations, ingredient sourcing and sustainability.
Here are some ways I incorporate body care in my self care routine that makes me feel good.
Exfoliate
You know what’s one of the best feelings? Smooth skin. I thought I had a smooth skin, but once I added a body exfoliator I felt baby skin soft. I love exfoliating in the shower twice a week with Necessaire The Body Exfoliator. A little goes a long way and it lathers up beautifully. This one is fragrance-free and made with bamboo charcoal, pumice, glycolic acid, salicylic acid and lactic acid.
Like exfoliating your skin, exfoliating your body removes dead skin cells to help prevent bacteria, sweat and dirt from clogging your pores. Exfoliating the skin can be very helpful if you have body acne and bumpy skin.
Another great way to exfoliate is using a dry brush. I dry brush before showering then follow up with body wash in the shower. Dry brushes are inexpensive and a great way to see/feel the benefits of exfoliating your body. The first time hurts a bit because the bristles need to be broken in. Use less pressure and take your time!
Moisturize
After showering, moisturizing your skin with a nourishing body lotion will help lock in moisture. I always keep my body moisturizers next to the shower so I don’t forget. My favorite daily moisturizers are Necessaire The Body Lotion and Biossance 100% Sugarcane Squalane Oil. I love that both are fragrance free so it will not mix with perfume if I am wearing that day. The Biosssance oil is multi-purpose and can be used for hair and skin too—love it! I also love Sol de Janeiro’s Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. It smells like a tropical vacation and makes me feel so good instantly.
For something luxe, I will moisturize with Saint Jane Beauty Luxury CBD Body Serum. This is so lovely and the packaging is so beautiful! It comes in a black matte model with a gold plaque. After the shower, I will towel off leaving my skin damp and apply the serum.
Cleanse
It was time to say goodbye to bar soap. My body just deserves more than that, you know? I love Necessaire The Body Wash. It smells like a spa and it makes showering just more enjoyable. It’s affordable and is available in 4 different scents, including fragrance free. I personally love eucalyptus and sandalwood. Necessaire also has a great kit, The Body Essentials to get your body care routine started!
Now that’s how I treat my body like my face. With lots of love, care and intention because you are worth it.
